Corner In The Room

Whistling winds and raindrops tapped the windows as thunder rattled the old wooden floors throughout the house,

Shook little robby out of his sleep.

“It’s dark”

He thought, spooked by the jagged shadows of tree branches creeping from the floors and ceiling, he scanned his room holding his blanket close to his eyes the moon is bright tonight.

Something felt off it wasn’t the first time he slept alone, maybe it’s the new house feeling

His mom mentioned or the empty gaze of action figures crowding his room.

“thump”

“thump”

A light sound no longer faint he mistook for rain, it was always there standing in corner of his room barely out of sight

A tall figure with a hollowed face peeking from the closet, It’s eyes wide as an owl and dark as the smile curled beside them

Robby bolted out stumbling halfway down the hallway.

“Ma.. mom.. wake up”

Swaying her repeatedly, desperately

“I’m up, I’m up baby what is it”

Slowly gathering herself, she noticed he’s breathing heavy

“What’s wrong, is it the storm here you can sleep in my bed tonight”

she shuffles around, as he stood there

“Somebody is in my room.. they were smiling at me…”

She froze for a second

“It’s probably one of your toys or a bad dream”

“But it’s not mo..”

“Stop, are you trying to scare me robby, go back to bed i have work in the morning.”

“But I don’t want to go to bed, the man with no eyes is waiting for me in the closet.”
