POEM STARTER
‘Dawn still rises, slowly, stubbornly.’
Write a poem with a consistent structure, concluding with this line. You can choose any style for your poem, but it should be one that employs a consistent structure.
Dawn
I fall asleep at 4:55AM
My eyes have barely sealed shut
I pray for a few hours of tranquility
But Dawn still rises, slowly, stubbornly...
I smile when they smile
I laugh when they do,
My face falls perfectly still
When I don't have to pretend to
I collect the broken peices of myself
Scattered around like shattered glass,
I hope superglue will work
To fix up the mosaic of my past...
I'm not use to the dark
I grew up with a night light,
So I spend a lot of hours crying
And I lie when people ask "are you alright?"
So many people want to know,
But nobody asks twice,
No one is a dog with a bone...
"Are you ok?"
No, but I _will_ be.
No, someone I love _broke_ me.
No, I'm obviously _crying_, dumbass.
No, I can't stop living in the past...
"Yeah, m'fine."
I don't know how long it'll be dark for
But as I've learned recently
_Falling asleep at 5:00AM, 3:45AM, 6:10AM..._
It won't last forever
Because Dawn still rises, slowly, stubbornly...
I'll be like the dawn,
I'll still rise,
Slowly,
And by god, stubbornly
