Fate And The Fool

It started with the blazing sun and ended with the first snow. A bittersweet conclusion for a once glorious passion. My foresight had been blinded by their smile in a truly unfortunate accident. I should have listened to the whispers that said it wasn’t meant to be. A large gulp of amaranthine wine brought no comfort from the pain. Perhaps, in a depressing way, it could be seen as a learning experience. A low chuckle slipped from my lips at the thought. Heartbreak merely taught me not to trust, even those that seem closest, to stay. Love binds fools to sweet lies. At the moment, I hold the place of the fool. The worst part is that I’d do it all over again. Meant to be or not, I cherished every moment of it. This only furthers my place as the fool. The world is cruel beyond words for allowing me this realization in the aftermath. The ghost of a smile gripped my wine stained lips. Pain lets us realize joy in an ironic twist. Fate follows its own, sadistic rules. Beating me at a game that should be mine. Another swig of wine brought with it a hardened resolve. Fate had its rules, and I had mine. Tears may drip down my face now, but tomorrow I will grasp what has been mine from the start. Plant my own roots deep in my soul and refuse to yield to Fate. I’ll turn Fate into the fool and and take back my place as ruler. A place that should have been mine from start to finish. Raising my glass in cheers, I let the last of the wine slide down my throat. This will be my new beginning. And it’ll start with me.
