I’m Sorry

Darren and Lexi have been dating for years now and they are in a happy and healthy relationship. There is a lot of trust between the two of them. Darren knows Lexi would never hurt him and Lexi knows the same about Darren. They are not around each other every second of every day and that’s why they think their relationship is so good and that there is so much trust.

One afternoon on a Saturday, Darren was sitting in his and Lexi’s shared bedroom in their apartment. He was just playing some video games with his friends whenever he feels his phone buzz. He stops for just a second to see what the message says. His heart sinks whenever he sees that it is from Lexi and whenever he sees what it says.

The message says, “We’re done.” Darren immediately drops what he is doing and starts to text her back. He asks why and what he had done to make her feel this way. This was very bad because he had just purchased a beautiful ring to ask her to marry him with. While she is typing a response he is sitting thinking through all of the things that he has done in the past six months. He couldn’t figure out what she was thinking he had done.

When she replied the message said, “I know you have been cheating on me with my best friend. She told me what yall have been doing. I feel hurt and betrayed by what I have learned.” Darren felt the anger rise up in him whenever he read that message. Lexi’s best friend Jess was the biggest liar. Everyone seemed to know that except for Lexi. Darren tried to tell her many times that Jess was not a good person and that she should not be around her, but she insisted that he was wrong.

Darren started typing a response that said, “Baby she is lying to you. I don’t know what she’s told you, but it’s not true. I don’t even like being around her, so I would have no reason to cheat on you with her. Jess is an awful person and you just can’t seem to figure that out.”

Lexi responded very quickly with, “She is NOT a liar. She is a great friend and I will believe any day over some man that I am dating. I will be coming by to collect my things later. I do not want to speak with you then so just stay out of my way.”

Darren felt tears in his eyes. He could feel them slowly falling down his pale cheeks. He typed this in response, “Fine. Believe her. Just know that I love you so much and that I would never do anything like that to hurt you. You can have the wedding ring I got you. I’ll leave it on the dresser.”

Lexi didn’t respond after that and it broke Darren’s heart. He didn’t know what he was gonna do. He went and sat on the bed that they used to share and started crying into his knees.

The End.
