Breath

I can’t believe he would go behind my back. I call him. No answer. I’ve ran around the school looking for him but I can’t find him. My foot hits the locker hard, as I kick it trying to get some anger out. “Colter!” I yell, but I know he’s not gonna answer. I kick it again. Then my phone dings. A text. From Colter. ‘I’m so sorry. I love you.’ Like that’s gonna make up for it. Below that text is another, his location. I use the phone to track it, but once I get there it’s the bathroom. I see him on the floor, lifeless. I lose my breath as I run over to him. “This isn’t funny.” I whisper, my voice not above a whisper. My breathing stills as I realize his does too. Then the empty bottle next to him. I grab it and right before I read it, darkness surrounds me too.
