I Hear Your Name In Passing
I hear your name in passing
Between the distant hisses
Of brakes on a phantom train
Headed for nowhere.
The station is empty
And yet here I am
Waiting for more of your
Words of affirmation
With only half-hearted meaning
Scribed between the letters.
I guess in my delusion
I failed to see
That all you are is
Smoke in mirrors.
The illusion of safety
That I welcomed so easily
That you handed to me
On a silver platter
Knowing it was worthless
Was too good to be true.
All signs pointed toward
Heartbreak and sorrow
But blind as I can be
I followed you
Down into the storm.
Now
In false love’s wake
I patiently await your return
I desperately await your return.
Even though this train
Has long left the station
I’ll stand here until I can no more.
I hear your name in passing
And it haunts me
Like a pain I can’t escape.
I’ve watched others
Come and go
But none have scarred so deeply
As you
And I long for the misery
That you entail.
