Perfect Victim

“You honestly thought you could get away?”

I looked at his dead eyes, the light, pale, blue matched his demeanor completely. Chilling, Icy, cold. This was the last strike with him, he warned me, if I tried anything else he’d kill me. He waited for me to respond but I offered none. I tried not to make eye contact, instead I looked straight ahead.

“Answer me!” He threw the chair he was sitting on across the room and I jumped, not expecting the reaction he gave. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at my forehead. I closed my eyes, I could feel my throat tighten, and the tears starting to well up.

“I-I’m sorry” was all I could say. A mere whisper due to how afraid I was.

“Oh you think I’m going to kill you with my gun?” He shook his head, and smiled. “Uh uh uh, ohhhh noo, I have plans for you baby.” He squatted down to lean into my face, getting close to me. I tried not to cringe when his breath made my skin crawl, his teeth grazed my ear and he whispered. “Plans that involve you screaming” he then leaned back to look me in the eyes. “-so loud even your precious little Kate will hear it-”

“-Keep my daughter’s name out of your filthy mouth!” I narrowed my eyes at him and struggled against the chains. The fear left for just a second, but as soon as I saw his mouth twitch and eyes darkened it returned tenfold.

He leaned away and crossed his arms. “Seems like I hit a nerve.“ he mused. “I hope Katie is just as fun as you are.” He smiled wickedly again, and he turned to grab the knife that was by the door.

As he picked it up, I wanted to yell at him, say all of the vengeful thoughts that ran through my head. But I saw something, a small key that would be the answer to my freedom.

I watched as he sharpened the blade with a stone.

“You could torture me, hell, you can screw with me all you want.” I kept my voice calm as I slowly moved my leg to it. Inch by inch, my foot was soon on it too. “I won’t scream, I won’t cry, and I won’t beg.” Slowly I brought the key close enough for me to scoot over and grab it.

He froze in his position, and slowly without moving any other part of his body he raised his head. “Is that so?” He asked lowly.

“I won’t tell you to stop...I will be silent. You won’t get a word out of me! That’s why you do it isn’t it? For the reaction... is it the thrill? Does it make you hard??” My voice was taunting.

It took every fiber of my being to not let my terror show.

Finally I turned the key to unlock the chains that were holding me.

The man turned around to look at me, only moving his feet as he did. His manner, his composure made my hairs on the back of my neck stand. I knew without a doubt that in this situation he was the killer and I was the prey.

“It must be exhausting, having to capture the girls, find the perfect disguise and alias, moving around so much-“ he looked down at me tilting his head. “I’ll do it for you. I’ll scream, I’ll cry, I can do whatever you want, for however long you need.” I paused. “No more moving, no more alias, no exhaustion. Just me. Being your perfect victim. I’m an actress, I won’t do anything but give you reality. And I won’t run anymore, I swear.”

He smiled coyly. “You know I can’t trust that.”

I nodded, and swallowed nervously. “I know, but I’ll prove it to you.” I stood up, and showed my hands free from the chains. The key in my right hand. “If I was lying, I would have waited for an opportunity to run again, or tried to kill you- but I didn’t.”

Again no movement or reaction. And we stood there in silence for a good terrifying minute, before finally he began to clap.

“Amazing” he smiled again, before coming closer to me. “Fine, I’ll play, but it won’t be forever. I get bored, but don’t worry!” He touched my cheek lightly with his palm. “My attention is all yours right now”
