POEM STARTER
Write a poem that centres around the motif of butterflies.
Different species of butterflies can be symbolic of different concepts, and their behaviours and lifecycles can reflect or inspire human emotions.
My Butterfly
I know a girl who is like a butterfly, all free and wild, like a creature who smells all the flowers.
The speckles of a butterfly
Reminding me of the freckles that line her cheeks
They are short lived these creatures
Butterflies lack the abilities to survive
Doomed from the start by there lifespans
But, the shortness is spent in delight
Getting to smell the buds of roses
Feasting on the nectar
She lives the same
But quite contrary, my love
I envy simple creature
Those who get to live unharmed
Whilst the rest of us are meant to suffer
Living long miserable lives
Dearest love of mine
We’re both complex
Hard to decipher
We’d argue if we’d ever marry
I fear that our love is fleeting
Much like the butterfly
But, this wisp of passsion
It intoxicates me
With her sugary words
Every word laced with poison
I’ve always loved butterflies
