POEM STARTER

Submitted by Jade Stoa

Write a rhyming poem about your favourite animal without ever mentioning what the animal is.

Alone

Icy winds blow through the night

Abundant fur to warm the soul

Guided by the dancing lights

That shine the way on ground below

Snowfelled blankets all around

Beneath the ice a river's flow

Lasting paw prints make no sound

Forevermore left in the snow

A sweeping tail, strong and swift

Big eyes and ears and teeth to have

Yet still more snowflakes adrift

A yearning for some warmth and grass

Broken home, strange freedoms found

Once part of many now alone

Roam the frozen tundra grounds

An aching need to find new home

Inky darkness of endless sky

A full moon sits bright and low

Head thrown back, release a longing cry

Solemn symbol of existing alone.
