Comfort In The Rain

Warren’s eyes drooped as he rested his head back against the headrest, the car now successfully pulled off the highway and the stick shift pulled back to park.

A tow trucker had been called; now all Warren had to do was wait for the man to arrive, tow his car, bring it to the dealership, and be his saving grace for the week.

It’s funny how much a dead battery can impact someone’s life. Even if for just a few hours. Everything else gets put on hold while you sit on the side of the road, waiting for someone to come pick you up and save you from your misery.

As Warren drifted off to sleep he left the world behind. The misty air and the thick fog clouding the distant landscape. The chill in the air as thundering rain crashed down over head. The occasional thunder, which would in fact, wake Warren up multiple times in a panic, only for him to realize he was still stranded on the shoulder of the highway.

This was the best type of white noise. The calming simplicity of the earth soaking in it’s needed moisture. The abundance of muddy puddles which would soon by splashed in by young children and adults alike as they held their brightly color umbrellas. The newlywed couple dancing in the rain, soaked to the bone, but caring not as they held each other close to stay warm.

The weary mother can take peace in knowing her children will sleep through the night, and she’ll finally get a few moments to herself.

Whether or not you enjoy it, rain can bring joy, it can bring peace, and it most certainly brings life.

And when Warren awoke from his long needed nap, and he saw the bright sky and a faint rainbow in the distance, he knew this to be true.
