Awakening

Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.

I Awaken to Myself

I am stuck between personalities. 1: She is bold and strong in both mind and body. She wields her skin like armour, like she has always been destined for battle. She wears blood like makeup. Her voice commands respect as a king would command his army. You have no choice but to listen. She glistens like lightening, comforts like the glare off teardrops. She surrounds the enemy with a forked tongue. Her words could collapse the economy. She is a warrior. Protector. She is a survivor. Alone. 2: He is gentle. He is scared of the rocks in the river, but he will never be scared of bridges. He wears skirts and sweaters. Dots and old lines spatter every inch of flesh. Sometimes he wonders if that is all he's ever been, freckles and scars. His ideas are pink petals fallen from razor blade trees. Fall in love with the world before there's nothing to fall in love with. Take your chance. He is true to himself. Wind through chimes. A hurricane submitting itself to life in a bottle. He is a comforter. An open-armed embrace. A ghost. A victim.
