Quincy Street

Ethiopian food joints

Copious bus stops

Vagabonds, passersby

Green line beneath footsteps

Quincy street,

My mind has gerrymandered you

In favor of my safety.

The world is small in this big city.

My lover rests on the outskirts

Towards the end of the line.

The people who will be my neighbors

are still quiet threats,

Creeping with their puppies.

I see them

I know them not

My dog needs to relieve herself

And I need to find home.

Is it the place where I’ll lay my head?

Is it her heart?

Her heart that has seen the world

But so little of my universe

My dog has found relief for the night.

I’m still searching for safety

Quincy street,

You’re all I know

for now
