Less Like Those Around Me
“I don’t want to stick out like a weed of wildflowers”
Wow does that line resonate
As the daughter of a helicopter during the 2000s
When classmates had more freedom
And wasn’t judged by friends they made
Or being forced to dress like her and act a certain way
I really didn’t understand
Because she shielded me not just from teenage hood
But from the real world, the chance to make mistakes
But when I was thrust into it and unprepared
So much darkness that I had no clue about
And maybe she was over bearing at times
But she came from a place of love
And we all certainly make mistakes
And I can learn from them when being a mom
While also seeing where she was coming from
And understanding she still loved me
When i never saw the need
She saw true life as it was more than I could
