Write a story in which the main character is a ghost who hunts humans.
The Hunters And The Hunted
Chapter 1: Elizabeth
It’s an ordinary Tuesday evening. The sun is shining, the lake is full, the grass is green and yet Casper still manages to ruin all of that in an instant with his wailing.
“Casper I swear if you don’t shut up, I’ll shove the pacifier so far down-“
“Elizabeth!” My mom’s voice cuts me off before I can cause ireprable damage to my two year old brother.
“Sorry mom.” I say while looking at the menace of my brother, whose smiling at me as if he has conquered world peace.
“Elizabeth, remember you have your first hunt soon.”
I roll my eyes, “not my first hunt, just my first hunt alone.”
“Yes well to me it’s the same thing.” My mom says while taking me in as if it it’s the last she’ll ever see me.
“You know me mom, I’ll be back, just like always.” I say while picking my equipment and head towards the door.
“I love you, stay safe.” My mom says with a tinge of soemthing, soemthing I can’t place.
“Love you too.”
And with that I head out the door and start my journey to the camp.
Chapter 2: Liam
The crows chatter above, marking it as my signal to wake up. Great another day of hunting those useless humans. What good will it do me in my life?
You’d think that ghosts get a peaceful life but no we have to still wake up and hunt these pitiful humans. I don’t mind if I get to hunt one of the bad people, like I did Hitler, but it’s the innocent people that I don’t like hunting. They haven’t done anything and yet here I am taking their life. But oh well. That’s the dead life for you where even less makes sense then since you were alive.
However a good thing is that I still get to look like a human while doing the job.
I get up and look for my Clip. And you must be wondering, what the hell is a Clip? Well dear human it’s a ghostly device that tells me who my next target is.
I flip it open and wait for the loading screen to disappear as I wait for my next unsuspecting victim. While I wait I stare out my window. My gaze follows somewhere out there in the world. What I would give to be alive again. The feel of the sun on your face. The soft blades of grass between your feet. The cold feeling of ice cream freezing your brain. Pizza. The smell of flowers.
My thoughts get interrupted with a ‘ding’ and I look at the Clip. Great. It’s another innocent. She’s far too smiley. Her hair falls just below her shoulders, it’s kind of the shade of an autumn brown. Her eyes are a shade of forest green. Her sun kissed skin kind of glows. My eyes snag to her name: Elizabeth McAbee.
Chapter 3: Elizabeth
The camp is busy as usual. The crowded corners, with everyone trying to hide their phones. I let the sound of laughter and chatter wash over me as I get my equipment ready.
“Elizabeth, might I have a moment.”
It’s the head counslers voice, and I’m thinking of all the things I could have done but my mind comes up blank.
“Yes Ms Valer.” I turn around to match her gaze.
“Unfortunately we have too many people today for the hunt and we have to keep you behind.” My jaw drops.
“But Ms Valer, this isn’t fair! I’ve been waiting for this for ages.”
“I understand sweetie. But you-“
I gather my equipment and rush out of the camp. Tears stinging my vision.
I sit myself down on the closet bench and take a deep breath.
_Why was it fair for me to wait when ive been training tirelessly, waiting for it to be my turn to capture my own ghost?_
The group that is supposed to hunt today, run past me and start cheering. My hands ball into fists, my face anything but subtle about how jealous I was.
That’s when the most reckless and brilliant plan forms into my mind._ What if I follow them?_
Chapter 4: Elizabeth
I follow them to a secluded area in the woods. I wait until they split into teams. I wait for one of them to drop their map. I quickly pick it up and find the area that they’re focusing on.
_I can do this._ I keep telling myself as I trudge through the silent and eerie woods. The sound of a ‘snap’ has me swivelling to see what’s there. A fox. Why am I so paranoid all of the sudden? No, not paranoia, caution.
_‘God this is so pitiful’_
“Who said that?” I ask as I take my Clut Gun (ghost gun).
_‘Is she talking to herself?’_
“No im not talking to myself.”
_‘Can she hear me?’_
“I’m not playing, whose out there? I can hear you speaking.”
I don’t hear anything after that. A wave of nausea washes over me and all of the sudden the whole world starts spinning. My visions starts blurring and just like that I’m falling for what feels like an eternity.
Chapter 5: Liam
The benefit of the Clip is that I can track anyone down with this. Doesn’t matter where they are, I can still find them. And it’s a good thing that this Elizabeth wasn’t that far. She lived in my town. I phase through as little walls as I can- the feeling always makes me feel uncomfortable. My guess is that she’s at the Ghost Hunting Camp aka GHC. And bingo was his nameo because viola she’s sitting and moping? No crying on the bench. Damn that’s kind of sad. The hunting group starts to disperse out the camp and that’s when this Elizabeth girl starts following them. Great, more following.
.
They end up in some training forest and she just picked up some paper some other kid dropped, I’m assuming a map. This forest actually brings back many memories. As I reminisce on my past memories while following Elizabeth, she walks aimlessly. **_
God this is so pitiful._**
**“Who said that?” She asks as she take out her Clut Gun (ghost gun). **
**_‘Is she talking to herself?’_**
**“No im not talking to myself.”**
**_‘Can she hear me?’_**
**“I’m not playing, whose out there? I can hear you speaking.”**
**I quickly shut out my brain, as I realise she can hear my thoughts. Now that is very unusual. Never in my entire ghost life has that ever happened. I contemplate just leaving her and hunting her another day when all of the sudden she starts falling. But not quickly, very slowly. Now that’s also very weird. She starts levitating a bit and there is a slight blue blur of light around her silhouette. Now that is also unusual for a human. I get closer to her and touch the blue light and it stings me. The light turns into a gold colour. Odd that’s my colour that I emit. And that’s when an angelic voice says “you are her protector now.” And the girl falls. I catch her forgetting I’m a ghost but now instead of her falling straight through my hands, I catch her.**
