Uncles and aunts,

Grandfather and grandmother,

As well as the parents,

Siblings and friends,

Gather for a feast.

Heaps of turkey,

mountains of ham,

Rivers of cranberry punch,

Cases of Diet Coke,

And so much more.

Small flames on the table,

Little candles everywhere,

A finger in the flames,

Just a simple dare,

To have some fun.

A little mistake,

A tiny misunderstanding,

A napkin in the candle,

Dropped on the table,

Now there’s fire everywhere.

Running and shouting,

And fire putting outing,

Tears on the face,

Of the small child,

And sighs of relief.
