POEM STARTER

Compose a poem that starts with an idiom.

Idioms are common, sometimes metaphorical sayings such as ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’, and ‘love at first sight’. Which idiom will you use to set the theme for your poem?

Don’t Forget The Elephants 🐘

Don’t forget the elephants in the room

They surely haven’t forgotten you.

One hundred of them die a day,

One in the past fifteen minutes.

Don’t forget the elephants,

Caught in human conflict

Or poached.

Numbers dropped sixty percent

In just a decade

And in just another

They will be gone.

Their numbers dwindle

And cries for ivory only climb

We kill for it

And they die for it

And one day

There will be no elephants

Left in the room

They listen yet

They are not heard

Did you know that they have names?
