Murder

There the corpse is.

So pale.

So empty.

It’s odd seeing a human being with no life in it.

No soul.

No warmth.

Their once shiny red hair is now dull and matted to the blood puddle pooling around it.

Their once bright green eyes now have faded to a brown.

Their once happy face now still.

Still like a predator about to pounce on its prey.

But they don’t jump into action.

They only fall into death’s hands.

I step closer to examine the body.

I lean in and touch my two fingers to one of their bloody wounds.

A snap from behind me cuts through the lingering silence.

I turn.

I gasp.

I gag.

I knife lodged deep in my stomach lyes in my view.

I look up.

I masked figure stares.

I will have no life.

No movement.

Only lifelessness.

I fall back and succumb to the weakness in my body.

My vision blurs and the figure bending over me fades.

Sleep takes me away before I can decide whether to fight for my life.

Before I can scream.

Before I can laugh.

But not before I can frown.

My final face.

Cold and bitter.

Eternal and final.
