Cʜᴇᴀᴛᴇʀ
It used to be just you and me
Always living our lives so freely
And then one night you came home late
I had to reheat your dinner plate
And hide the tear stains on my cheeks
That was the third time you were late that week
And I almost knew what was going on
But you held me and rocked me and sang me a song
But what was quite peculiar
Was the scent of vanilla on your shirt
But you convinced me I was your only
And I foolishly believed that it was just me
I forgot about it for a long while
But I still felt like we were falling out of style
And then another night you don’t show up
I decided then and there I’d had enough
I used the tracker on my phone
To find the reason you weren’t coming home
You were in a Target parking lot
The weird thing is that you were stopped
So I drove down to the grocery store
And behold my widened eyes, galore
There you were, in the backseat
Tangled up with a woman but I only saw her feet
And I did not like the sounds that were coming to my ears
It was everything that I had ever feared
Am I not enough? I asked,
Telling him he’s such an ass
He’s stuck in a state of denial
But he ain’t denying this trial
You know what? I say,
We’re done, have a horrible day
And I got in the car and stepped on the gas
Trying to get away from him - and fast!
