Shatter Like A Heart
A heart is like a pane of glass;
The feelings inside weren’t made to last
As for every argument long gone,
Keeps me tossing, turning until dawn
Sleepless nights and lasting days,
My heart is akin to glass in ways
For the cracks build up; spreading like veins,
Shattering around my binding chains
No longer trapped, I may break free,
From the endless cycle of you keeping me
Locked in a chamber of my own desires,
Burning inside like funeral pyres
Much like a pane of glass, my love was not to last,
And you knew it right from the start
But in reverse, the same is said,
To the other, you were led;
Because a pane of glass is like my heart,
And this I shall impart:
A crack can mean a breaking,
But also a making
Of a newer me; better and free,
Parting seamlessly from thee
When glass shatters most run in fear,
But the tinkling beauty draws me near
A thousand reflections looking at me,
And they all seem to tell the same story
Of love and hate and confinement,
Broken down into excitement
For a brand new life without you,
That I can up and walk into
So take a look and have a think,
Next time you see glass on the brink
Will you live or will you sink?
Your choice to make, but only once,
You shall be either queen or dunce
Control your own life,
You are yourself, not someone’s wife
Your greatest possession is your name,
Do not let it be taken in vain
Break through the pane,
Free yourself from the pain
You and you alone can choose
So what have you to lose?
