Taken

He stared at me with tear-filled eyes. “I’m sorry.” He smiled faintly. I gazed at him. “No.. There’s still time! Let’s just leave— and get you help,” He shook his head and grunted. “Listen to me,” God, no. I knew he wasn’t going to be okay, but I just couldn’t admit it.

“No battle is really fought alone. I helped you get here..” He clutched his bleeding chest.

“but the rest is up to you. I’m sorry I couldn’t be here to see you win. I’m sorry we can’t be together.” The words stabbed me like a knife. “No..” I grabbed his hand. “No, I’m not strong like you. I need you—“

“No. You don’t need me, Hunter. You are strong. You have it in you.”

This moment felt as if it would never end. In truth, it never did. I knew I would never really leave this moment. “See ya, Hunter.” I stared into his once happy eyes until the moment they shut. I didn’t want to leave him. Not ever.. but I had a battle to win.
