Mirror

She looked in the mirror, finger a curl, and then looked down to rummage through her makeup bag.

“I know you’re watching me,” she murmured.

The mirror shifted forward ever so slightly.

“You forget that I can read minds. Did you think I would not sense yours?”

The mirror shifted forward again, this time all the way opened.

A little girl stood on the other side.

“I’m sorry,” she muttered. She looked like she was ready to cry.

She picked the little girl up and held her tight.

“You don’t have to worry, this is your home, right here with me.”
