It was but a quiet yet rainy night in the inked forest outside my ligneous cottage. I sat, as I did every night, with my wife, Eli, on our antiquated leather couch. A tv sat upon a tall, redwood table afront of us, showing our new favourite show, Doctor Who, when suddenly, a spine-chilling rhythm ran through the stone walls. The air began to thicken. “Should I get it my love?” I asked, looking up at Eli, her sepia hair falling down perfectly past her rosed cheek as she looked at me with her flaxen eyes. “Yes please my love,” she responded as I stood, moving the floral-print blanket swiftly off my lap, placing a soft kiss in the middle of Eli’s forehead as I stood. As I strode around the corner, my heart stopped as I lay eyes the doorway, a blooded knife penetrating the wood. I froze in place.

Repeated ‘knocks’ echoed through the house. “Th-The d-d-door,” I stuttered quickly, “We need to hide, quick!” I grabbed her by the wrist about to run, but it was too late, the sound of the door hitting the ground rang through the house and a figure ran into the house and, before I could move, plunged a knife through her back. A psychotic smile formed on the monsters lips as he watched me hold her, my heart breaking in two. Anger rushed through me. I shot up and snatched the knife from the figure. Two died that night, but still, no one knows what I did but me, and I’m proud that I did it._**
