The Carnival Man
“I think I just met the happiest person in the world!” Vekin yelled, barging into the kitchen. He practically jumping with excitement. “Isn’t it crazy Dara? The man in the traveling carnival looked so happy!!”
“Literally what are you talking about.” The woman, Dara, deadpanned. Her arms were completely covered in flour, wrist deep in a mound of dough.
“The Traveling Carnival Dara! Duh!” Vekin rolled is eyes at her attitude. “The happiest man In the world just passed though! Don’t be telling me you never heard of him!”
Dara just snorted. “Yes, because he’s a local celebrity,” she said sarcastically.
Vekin dropped down on the bar-stool seat unceremoniously. “Say whatever you want but the man looked pretty happy to me.” He pointed out stubbornly.
Dara laughed despite herself. Her little brother was always believing the acts of magicians and actors and even carnival acts.
She finished kneading up her dough and popped it in the oven, dusting her hands on her apron. “Vekin, tell you what,” she began, “Do you want to go see the carnival on its way out? I don’t believe they’ve left yet.”
Vekin almost knocked over all the chairs as he shot up, nodding like his head was gonna fall off. “Yes!! Dara, you won’t believe what cool animals and stuff they have there!!” He began to excitedly list off different things that Dara had never even heard of, but she let him rant enthusiastically.
Her brother was, after all, the person she wanted to see the happiest in the world.
A/N
This is based on my Characters Vekin and Dara, in a modern, admittedly less traumatic setting lmaoo. Dara will always be fiercely protective of her little brother and I wanted to see her succeed in making him happy, all with their trademark banter. I Had a lot of fun writing this :)
