Dramatis personae:
Grand-daughter Cindy
Grandmother Emma
Attendant
Ghost of George
Scene: in a senior care home, Emma’s bedroom. Tea and scones on the bedside table.
Cindy: How are you doing today?
Emma: still here, unfortunately. Everything is awful. What do you want?
Cindy: Oh Granny. You don’t mean that. You haven’t had any of your tea. Try a scone.
Emma: I don’t want any of that. I want to see George. Is he coming today?
Cindy: He died 5 years ago. Remember?
George’s ghost appears behind Cindy.
George: I’m here, Emma my love.
Emma: oh George. My dearest. How I miss you so.
Cindy looks behind her. Just an empty chair as she can’t see George’s ghost.
Attendant enters to check on Emma.
Attendant: She’s so much more tender and sweet when George is here.
Cindy: but he’s dead!
Attendant: Not to her. Another scone, Emma?
Emma: oh yes please. These are George’s favorite. Blueberry lemon. What a wonderful world it is today.
George’s ghost nibbles on a scone and smiles. He blows a kiss at Emma.
