Left Alone
All I did was date another woman That turned my life around. Now I’m stuck in a room, dark and dingy and I have nothing to do apart from sit there and wait for a couple years till I’m let out From this place. I don’t understand what people think. I hear them all the time saying “ dating another woman is an abomination “ “ a sin worthy of death” I don’t know why they would say those things. It’s just another Lover. Love is love can’t you see. Well they certainly don’t. I know it’s ok to be myself and love who I love but they all say it’s a sin and I need to be put to death. Aren’t we all equal in the eyes of Allah? In Qatar sadly not. I’m just a young Arab girl that dates an Arab girl. I’m still a reliable Muslim no matter what they say. I hope I won’t be stoned. Apparently I will die any day. I’m waiting here reciting this verse praying to Allah saying he is the greatest. Allahu Akbah. The officer comes and tells me that I don’t need to die. I would give anything to live that life. Of course this is a dream and my life is a nightmare. Love who you want and love who you like because it really doesn’t matter.
Note. I wrote this passage to shine light on the saddening event on the death penalty for being LGBTQ. As an LGBTQ individual when I say “ it’s an abomination” for example I don not mean this. I’m just reciting things people have said to me as and LGBTQ individual. I dedicate this piece to all of the Muslims struggling with being LGBTQ.
