Cold As The Stars
They sat huddled up in the torn hull of the ‘Astral Phenix star craft’ as a snow, rain mixture stormed through the sheet covered gashes the crew huddled up close around the light blue heat lamp. “All the years of training, this entire mission just to die in a stupid storm,” Melisa shivered as she huddled up on Kiran shoulder.
“Sometimes its the journey that’s more important rather than the destination, and sometimes its the company you have that makes it all worth while.” Kiran paused as he pulled the blanket over to Melissa’s feet “and with a crew like mine, with you as my co-pilot any destination is worth the journey,”
Frustrated a tall blonde man with wavy blonde hair marched up and down. Puffed of thick white air bellowed from his mouth as he grunted. He came to a sudden stop near a metal wall. “You alright, Warren?” A small pale woman in the far corner bellowed.
“Ye I’m good, i just hate sitting here dong nothing,” Warren said as his hand grabbed the metallic handle off the buckled loading door. Kirans eyes traced his arm down and saw warrens finger tighten and his teeth grind. Kiran turned and whispered in Melisas ear before standing and tossing a small object at Warrens head “grab the pulse slingers and ill grab the tools,” after a few moments Warren tossed Kiran a small metal hand gun and the pair crawled out from one of the tarps.
Sparks flew as small electrical currents blasted form an hand held device in Kirans hand into the side of the ‘astral phoenix’ and massive colossal bolts of red lightning blasted the snow covered, alien, ground. Suddenly a low growl rumbled form the dark of the leafless Forrest. Kiran handed His partner the Zapper torch and began into the woods. He could feel the cold air on the back of his neck. At only a few degrees colder it reminded him of his home in the stars. As the grown grew louder and became to emanate from multiple places. He pulled from his armour plated uniform a small piece of glass. He placed it on his brow and from it unfolded a large orange vizier and a metallic helmet. Neon writing flashed up on screen ‘life forms detected, 360 degrees surrounded,’ he raised the pulse slinger and fired a small light blue pulse into a nearby tree. The pulse illuminated the fifty red eyes. These eyes devised into sixes all of which matched to large grey beasts with six limbs not including the long stinger tipped tale. He span round on his heels and fired a barrage of pulse pellets.
This writing piece is set in the same world as a novel I’m currently planning that is a very sci fi and takes place in space after humanity destroyed the planet. I hope you enjoyed and I’d love any criticism of this piece or suggested ideas for the novel it’s based on.
