Red Blood, Red Leaves, Red Sky

They used to hike here, Lance and Dakota

When the world was blue and green and lush

The trail would crunch underneath their feet

And the air would smell of fir and juniper and moss.

Those were the months before the sun sent its fire

Before the heat in waves scorched the earth

And the exploding sun turned the sky blood red

Now red leaves fill the trees and they die on the ground.

And what of love, did it lose its hope amid the red?

The blue and green used to calm their souls

Now their minds are filled with torment amid the glare

And they seek one another for comfort and a kiss.
