WRITING OBSTACLE

Submitted by Maranda Quinn

Show a powerful emotion – love, grief, rage - in a quiet, everyday moment.

Instead of writing a dramatic and drawn out scene, think about how subtle actions and sensory details can carry the weight of the feeling.

Love In Despair

I stare at the place she now rest, for the rest of eternity. I can't bring myself to believe she's gone, but she is. I crouch down in front of her tomb tracing the graving of her name–Paisley Grace Summers. "Hey pay" I whisper down at her grave. "I miss you, I miss you so damn much" My voice cracking softly. You were my other half, my light in the darkness. The one being who gave me true happiness, and what happened to her she didn't deserve. My heart is heavy, it feels like someone cut me open and all my insides fell out, because without you im lost and I don't know how to navigate this life without you by my side. We were meant to spend the rest of are lives together but yours ended so young. We were meant to grow old and watch are kids grow their own families but now I'll sit only thinking of the future we could have had together. I sit and think about you, your laugh, your smile when I made quirky pick up lines towards you, your sarcasm, the way you could make me smile whenever you walked into the room. I stare at where she rest and the sun is now setting. It reminds me of how beautiful she was. I stand up and take one last look, "I love you always" I walk away without looking back, because if I did I might crumble and never be able to walk away from this moment. Never be able to truly say goodbye.
