I Want To Be All

My grandmother always told me I was strong

I was an independent woman

And I could make my own way

My other grandmother always told me I was strong

That I was very smart- and I could cook

Men like that she said.

Now I do believe I’m strong

And independent

But I do want to be a mother and a wife.

I want to cook meals for my family

But I am still smart.

I think I am a balance of precepts.

When strong opinions mix,

And I come from a long line of strong headed people

You get something of a puzzle.

My parents tend to anger when I have an opinion

But I can’t help it

Everyone who raised me believes they are right.

An enigma

I think I am a large mix of worlds.

I want to be all, and all I will be.
