The Core
When the old gods created the planets, they sent me, their chief errand boy to be graced by their beauty. And beautiful they were, with rivers carving away through miles of rock, and hexagonal towers that sprouted from the ground. Nothing but the wind and the water moved, all was at peace. Until I discovered the caves. They stretched on and on, changing with the world above. I followed the caves deeper and deeper into the planet until I was faced with a spherical wall. Determined to see everything my creators had built, I chipped away at the brittle rock. Then it happened, light came pouring out of the crack I created. The light shot out like a wall of color, bouncing off the floor of the cave back the way I came. And just as fast as it had come, the wall of light receded back into the rock, yet the damage was already done. The sides of the cave were glittering with the light’s touch, and as I walked out I realized a newfound brightness to the place. When I reached the surface, I could barely recognize the outside world. There was green everywhere, a little fuzz covering every surface. The hexagonal towers seemed to be wearing soft evergreen coats. And then there was you… standing on two legs, looking like the old gods! But you possessed no higher powers, in fact you were quite weak. So I hid you, knowing how far the gods could go over their jealousy. For months I came to visit the planet, to release the light and keep you alive.
The gods have grown suspicious of my ways, and now I must pass the mantle to you and your people.
I will take a few of your strongest and show them the light. From then on everything will be up to you, the light, the land, your kind. After this final time, I will leave you, and I won’t be coming back. Take care and do what you must.
