One Move

“Elsie? Is that you?” A familiar voice I know all too well. I don’t turn around.

“What the hell do you think?” I say sarcastically, my arms full.

“I dunno, you just look-“

“Look what, George, look what”

“Well, tired”

I sigh, turning to face him. “What do you want?”

“What are you doing with all those boxes?”

“George, I asked you first”

“Why are you calling me George? You used to always call me Georgie”

“Yeah, used to” I mutter, turning back around to face my car.

“So what are you doing with those boxes?”

“None of your business”

“C’mon, I’m trying to be nice”

“And so am I” I say, my jaw clenched.

“Doesn’t seem like it”

“Shut up”

I aggressively place the box in the backseat of the car.

“For the third time, what are you doing with those boxes”

“Why would you care anyway?” I turn back around to face him, my arms crossed.

“Because, because we’re. Because we’re friends?” I roll my eyes at him. How stupid does he think I am.

“No we’re not. Not anymore.”

“What happened?”

“What do you mean?! You were the one who screwed it up!”

“Look, I’m sorry, I made a mistake”

“I know. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. I can forgive, but I can’t forget.” I slam the car door shut.

There’s an uncomfortable silence. Usually it would be a comfortable sweet one. But not today.

“I heard about what you did at church. Missy told me. I appreciate it.” He sends a smile in my direction.

On a normal day before any of this happened, I would’ve blushed. But not today.

“Congrats I guess. I heard the news.” I say, returning a smaller smile.

“Thanks, however awkward this is, I mean it.”

“Slightly more awkward now” I reply with a small chuckle.

“Are you going to tell me what you’re going with those boxes now?”

I hesitate. Should I tell him? Would he really care? “I’m moving.”

“What?”

“I’m moving.” Maybe I shouldn’t have told him.

“Where and why?”

“Across the country, to Colorado, for college” I look down at my feet and place my hands on my hips.

“Colorado?! That’s twelve hours away”

“I know”

“That’s far away”

“I know”

“Like super far”

“I know Georgie!” I say, frustrated.

“Are you gonna visit, or come back?” He says softer.

“I don’t know yet.”

“When are you leaving?”

“In three to four months, I just need to find finalise it”

“Where are those boxes going?”

“To a charity shop”

“Well, I hope I see you before you go.”

“So do I”

He smiles before walking away.

Another scene between Georgie and my OC. This is season 5 after *something* happens. I shan’t spoil it now though, but if you know you know
