COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem that uses a motif of mazes to highlight a theme.
The End
Don’t tell me that you never
Tried to skip right to the end
Just to get away from
Every twist and turn and bend
We all know the shortcut
We all know the cost
But no one really thinks of that
When they’re cold and scared and lost
Don’t judge me for my shortcut
You don’t know the road I braved
Every step a landmine
Every breadcrumb saved
And here I am, on greener land
But still the dead ends sting
The fear of never knowing
What tomorrow’s path may bring
So now I water other paths
I clean up lost debris
I do the things I always wished
Someone would do for me
It took a good long while
For my own path to be clear
But the more I nurture, grow and heal
The more I’m glad I’m here
