WRITING OBSTACLE
Demonstrate. Incapacitate. Solidify.
In a story of no more than 10 sentences, use these three words in any order. The point is to create a story line that allows you to link them all naturally, without forcing them into random places.
Talisman
I stumbled into a store with books, music, and jewelry. I wanted to enter in hopes that the so-called Holy Spirit would demonstrate its power of a sign, wonder or miracle. However, I’m also wary of the the forces of evil wanting to corrupt, deceive, and destroy my joy of God’s revelation.
I do not want Satan’s influence to incapacitate my confidence to confront the customer perusing through bibles.
So, before I make my approach, a glint of light from a talisman caught my eye. A gorgeous, silver cross pendant that surely would be enough to help me break the ice.
However, a moment of self-doublt flashed. This is creepy with stalkery vibes written all over my face. Am I actually going to do this? So I paused to re-consider my blingy trap. it’s devious, manipulative, and maybe a sin. On the flip side, the possiblilty of success excites me. THe adrenaline rush is intoxicating. It’s the same excitment of me turning around and putting that silver cross in my pocket and running out of the store.
It’s not me.
So, i stopped. I changed my mind and reflected upon a different material that caught my eye. No glint. instead, the texture tells me it may be made by hand. I exchanged the sterling silver with one made of leather. THe embossed image of nails formed the cross. This one solidified my feeling of humbless, simplicity, and ultimate sacrifice. Now that’s a message Jesus would approve.
Then I walked closer and closer and shouted “Hey, Alex!”
