A Deeper Secret

“WE’RE MOVING?!”

I scream to my mother.

I frown angrily, and March upstairs.

My name is Aurora, and I am 16 years old.

When we arrived at the new house, I sensed something strange.

It had a sickly rotting smell seemingly smudged into every corner. I decided to go explore the basement, as there was nothing else to do.

When I took the last step off the stairs, I felt a wide book under my foot. I lifted it up, and opened the dusty pages.

It appeared to be the diary of the kid who lived here last.

I opened up the book, and began to read.

September 2nd, 1939.

I can hear their footsteps.. I’m hiding out in the basement, I hope that they don’t see me.. if you’re reading this, I’m probably already dead by the way..

September 5th, 1939.

They’re nearing the basement.. they might be scared of the dark, though, because they don’t even glance down here. I guess that’s better for me, though.. I’m just so scared.

September 7th, 1939.

They’re getting braver. Oh, shoot.. one is coming down here.. please, save me.. wait- no. It stopped. Looks like they’re still not brave enough.

September 15th, 1939.

They’ve stopped patrolling the house. They must think I’m not here anymore.. I’m so hungry..

September 29th, 1939.

From there, the page was ripped. A shiver was sent down my spine, as I crouched and felt a paper. I held it up, and sure enough, it was the missing piece that was torn off. It now said ‘please.. they’ve left, but.. there’s a deeper secret within this household. You must leave, and hopefully you haven’t read this last part, because.. they’ll get you.’

I raised my head from the book, and turned to go back up the stairs. “You damn child.. couldn’t follow instructions” an odd, deep, voice said.

“What?”

I said in a muffled voice as two cold slimy hands (that were colored pitch-black) were wrapped over my mouth.

“MFFF!”

“Shush, they’ll hear you.”

A knife was shoved into my chest, and I grew limp with devious laughter echoing in my head.
