Witches Of The Woods

β€œRun” I whispered to Polly, who was straggling behind me. The grass tore at my legs. I could see she wanted to stop. Up above the trees seemed to laugh. We ran faster. I had to escape. I cluched my spellbook in my arms. Mother’s words were still repeating in my head:

β€œRun away, fast before they catch you.” Bye Mother.

I don’t know how she said it so calmly. I wanted to cry but knew my heart was cold as rock. I am a witch.

I turned. Polly was far behind. She, my sister, didn’t matter anymore. She was only in the way. The ground was shaking, trying to make her and I fall. The trees were being torn up from the ground with a mysterious magic making them rise. Then fall. Come crashing right in front of me. I turned and saw a tree that had fallen behind her rise about 4 feet off the ground. Then the tree’s ivy reached out and grabbed her, pulling her underneath the tree, the tree fell, hopefully killing her.

She wasn’t a real witch of course. Not important. Mother and I just wanted to make her feel like she was β€˜one of us’. Of course she wasn’t. Little naive girl, couldn’t even do the spells.

I had to stop what was happening… no not Polly. The shaking of trees. I opened my spellbook as i ran. I need to risk this. I flipped through the pages until I found it.

A moment in time.

I held up my necklace which was on my neck that my mother had given me.

The earth became still.

The leaves falling stopped in the air.

I’d done it. Yes. My first spell out of training school.

The trees. They spoke. They… repeated my spell. Over. And Over. Again. And Again.

I saw a cottage in the trees. An old witches cottage. A classic.

I ran towards it.

I opened the door. There were witches brewing potions. They didn’t give me even the satisfaction of a glance. I knew that I will grow to like these witches.

β€œHello Mother. I’ve come for a visit.”
