Dismantled

Slowly, brought to ruin.

The carving of buildings,

the curbing of vigor,

the substraction of growth.

All leading to a broken, despairing realm of lost ambition and shattered hopes.

The riots could have changed things.

The uprising could have turned the tables.

But slowly, we were brought to ruin.

Our efforts, fruitless.

Our desires, neutered.

Maybe we should have never resisted.

Maybe we’d still have somewhere to call home.

But now we only have this.

A dismantled array of fraying sanity,

lost to the void of sorrow.
