Piper
I think I just met the happiest person in the world. My one year old daughter watched her favorite show, beaming as she mimics the movements of the woman singing on-screen. She claps and hops, checking periodically to see how proud I am of her acrobatics. She lets out a gleeful yelp and form her mouth into a tiny “O”, pointing at an image of a kitty cat, her favorite animal. “What does a kitty say?”, I ask her. “Meow”, she responds in the highest voice I have ever heard in my life. It’s amusing, really. I try to contain a smile, but it fails as the corners of my lips turn upwards and I let out a gentle laugh. She laughs with me, as if she understands her silliness. She runs up to my chair, wraps her arms around my legs, and lays her head on my lap as she softly lets out a little “aww”. Her innocence grips my heart and fills me with warmth. My baby.
