I’m not used to it. I think that’s the problem. When your top of the food chain, it’s always slightly harder to get used to things when that changes. Not that I was ever really top of anything.

We are like clay, malleable. Others are more rigid. The eerl, the biggest, the smartest and the oldest species. The predator. And the sanceseni, the worker bees. Harmless but inedible. The colicutt, or the cattle. Easily overpowered and large in population. The perfect food source. Prey.

We are all of those, but technically something different altogether. We are the sanceseni that fights the system. The nasty surprise, when dinner fights back. We are the vegetarian eerl. Who sit around enjoying the pleasure of owning the world while showing none of the power they supposedly have. For the last few years I have fallen firmly into the last category. But you can’t stay moulded forever. We are a liquid species. Never meant for a single shape.

And so I find my self at the bottom again. Prey. At least I have the element of surprise. It’s easier to bite when they’re not expecting teeth.
