POEM STARTER
Compose a poem about the lost art of boredom.
Are we missing out on the beauty of being bored?
The Bored Girl
“I’m so bored!”
Cried the girl,
“I’ve nothing to do,
My brother is stupid,
And my friend has the flu!”
Her mother said kindly,
“Well, dear, here’s the truth:
That feeling of boredom
Can help you cut loose.”
“But how?”
The girl enquirered,
Perplexed as can be.
To this, her mom replied,
“Well… what do you think?”
The girl stopped for a moment
And pondered the words
And she got an idea
About a new world.
With fairies and mermaids
And dinos, oh my!
Like a rocket, her brain launched
And took to the sky!
She pulled out a crayon,
A sheet of paper, too.
“Look, Mama!”
She yelled,
“I can tell stories like you!”
The mother, with a chuckle,
Sat down and replied,
“That’s why it’s important,
Whenever you’re bored,
Just think about anything
And make up a story.
I have to leave now,
So that I can write.
Say hi to your father,
I love you, goodbye.”
