Foreign
The crown sits on my lap,
Wishing it belonged to someone else.
And I hold it dreadfully,
Also hoping another’s hands
Had greeted it instead.
The colored jewels
That rest atop the gold
Remind me of simpler times.
Green—
Like my unending adventures
In the grass and fields.
Blue—
Like the skies
I once chased with friends.
Now it feels
As though I’m chasing them.
Purple—like my old soul,
Free to do as it wished,
Happy no matter what.
But now, I feel foreign—
To my land,
To this crown,
And to myself.
