A New Day
The phone rings casting the ring to ring throughout the whole house. I glance over at the phone just sitting on the end table over by the frayed arm chair. I slowly get up from my seat on the couch and walk towards the phone.
It rings once again reminding me that I still have yet to pick up the phone. I reach my hand towards it and pick it up. I hold it near my right ear and breath lightly and quietly.
“Hello?” I question hoping that the person on the other end of the line isn’t going to talk for long.
“Angie,” the voice says. His voice. His voice is soothing and warms my body all over. “It’s ok. I forgive you.”
I hold my breath before speaking again. “You- you do? I’m sorry for what I said. I- I know that it was wrong.”
As if I can almost hear and see Him smiling on the other end He says, “I know. Again, it’s ok. Sinners make mistakes all the time. But you know, you can always come back to me. You don’t have to walk. You just have to turn and I’ll be there for you, Angie.”
Tears sting at my eyes. “Thank you, God. For giving me another chance. I know that you’ll always be there for me.” I say, happiness flowing through my bones.
“I love you. You are doing well, good and faithful servant.” He says, and then He’s gone.
I set down the phone and stand there by the end table smiling to myself.
That’s when I wake up from the dream.
I sit up in my bed and stare outside at the gleaming sun shining through the glass window pane. Today’s gonna be a great day.
Because it’s a fresh start for me.
A New Day.
