Speculative poetry is popular, and allows exploration of things that aren't yet real. You don't have to write from your own perspective; you could get into the mindset of a character.
Ten Years From Now
In ten years time I’d like to feel
A starburst-flavored kind of zeal
I’d like to wonder, then believe
Life’s got my steps where they should be
A pen in hand and friends in heart
A dedicated room for art
In ten years time I’ll count me blessed
If I’m sat at my writer’s desk
