STORY STARTER

Write a scene where a superhero must reveal their true identity to someone they care for.
Secrets.
“You keep lying to me, Dean!” he shouted. His voice was rising higher and higher by the second, and I could tell he was about to break.
“You’re right” I stated quietly. “You’re right, but if I told you it would change everything. I wouldn’t just be your best friend, you wouldn’t see me as just your best friend….” My voice trailed off.
Day after day I keep lying to everyone important to me, but what choice do I have. I have to keep my secret. I was always told to keep my secret, that no one would accept me. My parents were right about that, “Keep your powers to yourself” I remember my mother speaking with her dying breath, “no one will accept you, and I won’t be here to protect you anymore.”
“Nash, you have to understand I can’t tell you” I kept my voice quiet and calm, doing my best not to aggravate him more than he already was.
“And, Dean, you have to understand that if you don’t tell me what is going on with you you’ll loose me.” He paused taking in my reaction. “You’ve been lying to be ever since you got back from that boarding school, dean you’re my best friend. I don’t want to loose you.”
I bit my tongue. Should I tell him? Tell him that I’m the one they call “The Protector”? Should I tell him I’m the superhero that’s saving this city? Would he accept me if I did?
“I’m leaving” he stated, a hateful look covering his eyes. It was as if he was shooting daggers into my skull, it brings a whole new definition to “if looks could kill.”
“Wait!” I shouted but he turned around and walked off. I continued shouting for him, my legs too shaky to move. “Nash! Nash- I’m the protector!”
