If only life had been fair and kind

If only no one got left behind

If only everything had tasted sweet

If only potholes didn't exist in the street

If only people said things that they meant

If only crime rates dropped 100 percent

If only the worst part of a bad day was rain

If only health and happiness wasn't so hard to maintain

If only the best things in life were free

If only I was enough to make you love me

But that's not the way the world works

Even though life may have its perks

There will always be a handful of jerks

That's just the world in all of it's quirks

If only we looked at what was in our sight

If only we all always tried to do right

If only we appreciated the things that we had

If only we looked beyond what we thought was bad

If only we made the world fair and kind

If only we made sure things ended up fine

Only if we make change and stand our ground

Only if we let love run completely unbound

Only then can our 'if onlys' maybe come true
