Awaken The Hollows
The excitement of the climb had taken all of Lexi's energy. As soon as Mason pulled her over the edge, she collapsed in exhaustion; she never witnessed Ivy being pulled to her death.
She dreamed she was back on the route. This time, there was a immense mountain range in front of her. The route ran right into them and through a serene, green meadow. Above her were white, puffy clouds against an otherwise spotless, blue sky. In the air was the smell of honeysuckle and other wildflowers. She began walking forward towards the mountains. As she did, she noticed a figure walking along her same route but coming towards her. The figure carried something that looked to be dead. Strangely, though, Lexi felt no discomfort seeing this dead thing being carried in such a manner.
As the figure approached, Lexi could make both it and what it carried out better. The figure walking toward her was a man in a black trench coat. The sides of his head were shaved and the black hair on top of his head was tied back into a crude ponytail. The thing he carried was the corpse of Lexi's recently deceased friend, Bethany. At the time of her death, Lexi felt satisfied like Bethany dying couldn't've happened at a better time. Now, despite everything that's happened, she felt that same feeling. In fact, she felt the urge to run over and tear the head from her friend's body to ensure her her lifeless state.
But she didn't. She simply walked forward to meet with the man in the trench coat. The closer they got, the more details about the man Lexi could make out. He was also wearing a black shirt and leather pants. He had a belt of bullets hanging off him and an ornate, engraved pistol holstered on his left side. His once brown boots were speckled in a darker substance. When they were only about five feet from each other, they stopped and stood in silence for about thirty seconds. Then Lexi noticed one final detail about this man; his eyes had been closed the whole time and his eyelids were pitch black. When he spoke, his voice was unnaturally deep like a low echo in a large tunnel.
"You understand why he can't come with you?" Despite never seeing this man before, she knew exactly what he meant. "I do." Her own voice caught her off guard; it was sickeningly sweeter and higher pitched. It also sounded like she spoke through radio static. "Then awaken the Hollows, hunt down all that came with you, and claim your true personage. Let the shedding of your Broken body mark the beginning of the rise of the New World." He responded.
"Lexi?" From behind her, she heard the voice of Devon. "This subconscious state mirrors the real world. Even now, he devotes himself to your Broken self." The man spoke as Lexi turned to her boyfriend who approached them. As he did, she felt tendrils snake up her feet and heels and root her to the ground. Looking down, she saw miniature bolts of lightning imbed themselves just above her ankles.
Suddenly, she felt a surge of energy such as she had never felt before. She raised her hands to find a faint white glow emanating from them. She looked back at Devon, a feeling of euphoria now obvious on her face. “Thank you, my love. You’ve come back, but I no longer need you. The New World welcomes me into my new life.” She put her hands on his face. “I’m sorry, but it doesn’t involve you.” Then, the man in the trench coat, still with his eyes closed, pulled his pistol from its holster and shot Devon in the middle of his forehead. Lexi let the body of her deceased boyfriend fall from her hands, the feeling of pleasure ever growing. She turned back to the man. “Let us begin, Orlithsir. The great one awaits us.”
