POEM STARTER
Using twelve stanzas, write a poem about each month of the year.
The Ugly 12
January
The year begins, a bitter sting,
Of frost on pane, and winter's sting.
The sun a distant, fading gleam,
A soul-deep cold, a chilling dream.
February
Grey skies weep, a constant rain,
Washing away all hope and gain.
Love's a myth, a fleeting fire,
Leaving ashes, cold desire.
March
The wind howls fierce, a mournful sound,
Baring the earth, all life unbound.
Winter's grip, it won't release,
A weary soul finds no release.
April
Spring arrives, a cruel deceit,
Promises bloom, a bitter defeat.
Flowers may bloom, but joy is dead,
A hollow echo, dreams long fled.
May
The air is sweet, but life's a blight,
A constant ache, both day and night.
The world moves on, oblivious,
While I remain, in endless abyss.
June
The longest days, the longest nights,
Filled with despair, and endless fights.
With shadows deep, and memories grim,
I drown in sorrow, limb by limb.
July
The sun beats down, a fiery kiss,
Scorching the earth, a burning bliss.
But joy's a mirage, a fleeting haze,
Leaving behind, a soul ablaze.
August
The heat descends, a heavy shroud,
Suffocating dreams, within the crowd.
A weary heart, a withered vine,
Yearning for solace, a sign.
September
The leaves begin to softly fall,
A gentle warning, a mournful call.
Of time's swift passage, and life's decay,
Another year fades, slips away.
October
The air grows crisp, a chilling bite,
A harbinger of coming night.
Of spirits restless, and ghosts that roam,
Reflecting echoes of a life unknown.
November
The wind howls strong, a mournful plea,
For solace lost, and what might be.
The days grow short, the shadows long,
A haunting melody, a mournful song.
December
The year draws near, a final sigh,
Another year, beneath the sky.
No joy remains, no festive cheer,
Just emptiness, and endless fear.
