Ashes
If silence had a scent, it would smell of ashes.
It would smell like the leftovers of blazing flames,
Remnants of what used to be burning noises and sounds.
Silence would be the gentle murmur of
A candle being blown out.
All that is left is the soundless whisper of smoke
After the tongues of fire are done speaking.
Silence is the slight aroma of embers being
carried with the wind in the quietest breeze.
Silence smells like old wood tinged with black,
And it is akin to the soft hum of a burning object sizzling into silence.
It smells of ashes, because ashes are the peaceful remains
Of what was once a deafening, blazing fire.
