The duck lands gracefully on the ocean water. The water ripples around it, sending its signal across the surface, making its way to those that lie beneath the water. Its wings flutter as it brings them in, sitting satisfied, buoyed by its feathers above the endless depths below.

And for a moment, it's peaceful. Everything is quiet, the water having settled below the duck as it rests.

It can all change in an instant.

It starts with the soft rumble beneath the surface. Entirely unnoticeable, unless you're listening for it. It ever so slightly jostles the glassy film of the water, yet the duck doesn't notice.

The rumble quickly expands into a roar, and before the duck even realizes, it's been trapped in the jaws of the monstrous creature that had always been lurking below.

A waterfall comes down the glistening body of the creature, the ocean so disturbed by its presence that it seems to part just for its extrusion.

And as quickly as it rose, the creature sinks again, its wormlike form disappearing once again into the depths of the ocean.

Soon enough, the water settles again, its reflective surface returning, and all seems as it once was.

Peaceful.
