WRITING OBSTACLE

Over margaritas on the beach, two friends have a life-altering conversation.

The Mirrorball

The sound of the waves never wavered, muting away those inner thoughts that would succumb to me even after today. I never felt free after weeks of being overworked.

As my eyes darted from the endless coast of the sea, the coldness of the glass of margarita chimed me in.

“Have you seen how much we changed drastically over the years?” I asked, as my fingers circled around the rim of the glass. “Of how far we've become?”

Annalise, my best friend since sixth grade, chuckled before me. “Our choices have wielded us to become who we are. Broken, fearless, free, and headstrong. It's not a curse, but a blessing if I would call upon the heavens to make us more of what we are now.”

My eyes exchanged moments from glancing over my drink to her. Yet again, my mind wavers from the thoughts that still linger. “What could we have done if we didn't choose to become who we are now?”

My words echoed with the wind as it took away more of the warmth I should have been feeling. Annalise didn't answer and just stayed quiet as we both savored the moment of peace, silence, and the small freedom we had for the time being.
