An Orchid A Day
It was your favourite flower
Until your dying hour
Light pink with crimson spots
Like your freckles, sweetest dots
And petals as soft as your skin.
I always remember your grin
When you held them in your hands
Gifts from your family and friends.
The joy in your sky-blue eyes
A heart that knew no lies,
Like the innocent child you were
Believing evil could never occur.
You never lost your glee
It was puzzling to me.
Nothing could break your spirit
Your grace or your wit.
In the end, you always knew,
So even when it hurt you
You would grab my hand
Bravely take your stand,
And ask me to tell you a story
Of kings, queens, and their glory
Of pixies and knights
Epic battles and fights
Butterflies and nightingales
Like those in fairytales
Where flowers forever grew
And the sky was always blue.
So we'd travel, you and me
To the lands where you'd be free
Through bright, golden skies
Warm nights of fireflies.
And for a precious moment
Life was for once clement.
Only love existed.
No pain persisted.
Disease desisted.
No sorrow resisted.
Daughter of my heart
I've loved you from the start
Until our last embrace,
But forever I will place
Your orchid on your grave
And I promise to be brave.
Every single day...
Your orchid I will lay...
For as long as I live...
Oh, so much more I could give!
This is your daddy's promise,
Trying to find solace.
Even though my heart breaks.
I love you so much it aches.
